- Sodium nitrate is the chemical compound with the formula NaNO3.
- This alkali metal nitrate salt is also known as Chile saltpeter to distinguish it from ordinary saltpeter, potassium nitrate.
- The mineral form is also known as nitratine, nitratite or soda niter.

APPLICATION:
- It is used as an antifreeze additive for concrete in the construction industry, as well as a component of salt refrigerants (ammonium nitrate mixture), quenching baths in the metalworking industry.
- Sodium nitrate also serves as an ingredient of salt lubricant for rolling pipes on machine tools and in solutions for acid etching of stainless steel pipes.
- It is used in the production of explosives; ceramic industry, glass industry, dye industry, medicine, etc., also used as fertilizer in agriculture.
