Caustic soda is a highly versatile, white, solid alkali with strong corrosive properties used in pulp/paper, textiles, soaps, detergents, and water treatment. It is commonly used as a strong base to neutralize acids, dissolve grease, and treat waste. It is extremely soluble in water, forming a dangerous, heat-generating solution

 

APPLICATION INDUSTRY –

1.    Household & Industrial Cleaning: It is a powerful drain cleaner that dissolves fat, hair, and oil. It is also used in degreasers, oven cleaners, and to remove stains from surfaces,

2.    Soap & Detergent Manufacturing: A crucial ingredient in the saponification process, converting fats/oils into soap.

3.    Water Treatment: Used to neutralize acidic water and remove heavy metals.

4.    Pulp & Paper Production: Used in the bleaching process, pulping wood, and recycling paper.

5.    Food Processing: Employed in small, regulated quantities for peeling fruits/vegetables, processing cocoa, and producing soft pretzel crusts.

6.    Textiles: Used in the mercerization of cotton, improving dye uptake and fiber strength.

7.    Chemical Manufacturing: Serves as a base for producing other chemicals, plastics, and aluminium.
